IIST Admission Test (ISAT- 2012)

ISAT is conducted by Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram for admission to the Undergraduate Programmes (B.Tech).

Online application form of ISAT will be available from : 1 November 2011
Last date of online registration : 31 December 2011
Last date for fee remittance : 6 January 2012
Last date of receipt of Institute copy of challan : 16 January 2012
ISAT Entrance Examination : 21 April 20112
 

Eligibility

Candidates must make sure that they satisfy all the eligibility conditions given below for appearing in ISAT-2012:

  1. Citizenship
    Candidates have to be Indian citizens to be eligible to write ISAT-2012.
  2. Date of Birth
    The date of birth of candidates belonging to GEN, OBC categories should be on or after October 1, 1987, while the date of birth of those belonging to SC, ST and PD categories should be on or after October 1, 1982.
    The date of birth as recorded in the high school/first Board/ Pre-University certificate/or its equivalent will be accepted. If the certificate does not mention the date of birth, candidate must submit at the time of counseling/admission an authenticated document indicating the date of birth.
  3. Year of passing Qualifying Examination (QE)
    A candidate must have passed the QE (10+2) for the first time, in the calendar year 2011 or 2012, provided the results are available before 1 July 2011. Those who are going to appear in the QE or expecting the results of QE later than July 1, 2012 are not eligible to apply for ISAT-2012.
  4. Minimum Percentage of Marks in Class X or equivalent examination.
    Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must secure at least 70% marks in aggregate in their Class X or equivalent examination, while, those belonging to SC,ST and PD categories must secure at least 60% marks in aggregate in their Class X or equivalent examination.
  5. Minimum Percentage of Marks in 10 + 2 or equivalent examination
    Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must secure at least 70% marks in the aggregate in their Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) papers in their QE, while, those belonging to SC,ST and PD categories must secure at least 60% marks in the aggregate in their PCM papers in their QE.

Reservation :

As per Government of India rules candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. These categories are:

  • Scheduled Castes (SC)/ Scheduled Tribes (ST) - 5% and 7.5% of the total seats in each programme in IIST are reserved for SC and ST categories, respectively. Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories will be required to produce the original caste/ tribe certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed format. Certificates in any other format will not be accepted. These documents must be produced at the time of Counselling, failing which their candidature will not be considered for admission. Seats remaining vacant in these categories shall be left vacant and shall not be filled by candidates belonging to any other category.
  • Other Backward Castes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) - For the purpose of reservation of seats in ISAT-2012, a candidate will be considered as OBC only if he/she belongs to the approved caste and satisfies the condition of non-creamy layer as defined by the Government of India. For candidates belonging to this category, 27% of the total seats in each programme are reserved and will be allotted based on a relaxed criterion. In case any of the reserved seats in this category are not filled, they can be filled by candidates belonging to GEN category. Those candidates belonging to the creamy layer are not entitled to the benefits of reservation. However, all such candidates may seek admission under General seats as per merit order. The OBC candidates seeking the benefits of reservation will be required to produce the original caste certificate issued on or after January 1, 2011 by a competent authority in the prescribed format. Certificates in any other format will not be accepted. The certificate must be produced at the time of Counselling, failing which they will NOT be considered for admission in the OBC Reserved category.
  • Physically Disabled (PD) candidates - For candidates belonging to PD category, 3 % reservation (horizontal reservation) of seats is allowed at IIST within the overall reservation.

Benefit of reservation shall be given only to those castes/ tribes which are recognized by the Government of India and are included in the respective central list published by the Department of Personnel and Training.

Examination :

The question paper will be of objective type and will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The detailed syllabi based on which ISAT-2012 will be conducted, for the three subjects, namely, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics will be included in the ISAT-2012 Brochure which will be available in ISAT-2012 webpage from 1st November 2011.

Student desirous of taking entrance test ISAT-2011 shall have to pay examination fee as under:
GEN/OBC male candidates    : Rs.600
SC/ST/PD and for all female candidates    : Rs.300

The examination fee should be in the form of Demand Draft drawn on any nationlised bank in favour of "The Registrar, IIST", payable at "Thiruvananthapuram".

How to Apply for ISAT-2011

Candidates can apply on-line only. The on-line application form will be available from 10:00 AM on 1st November 2011 to 11:30 PM on 31st December 2011 at the IIST website. Candidates will be guided at this stage about how to complete the application process, remit examination fee etc.
