Important Dates

Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh has invited applications for admission to Doctoral of Philosophy (PhD) Courses for the academic session starting from 01st January 2017.

Admission to PhD courses conducted at the Institute is made twice a year. The sessions commence from first January and first July each year.

Name of the Department : ANAESTHESIA (02 seats), ANATOMY (04 seats), BIOPHYSICS (02 seats), ENDOCRINOLOGY (02 seats), EXPERIMENTAL MEDICINE & BIOTECHNOLOGY (01 seat), GASTROENTEROLOGY (02 seats), IMMUNOPATHOLOGY (02 seats), MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY (01 seat), NUCLEAR MEDICINE (01 seat), NEUROSURGERY (02 seats), PHARMACOLOGY (02 seats), PAEDIATRICS (01 seat), SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH (09 seats), TRANSFUSION MEDICINE (01 seat)

The admission to the above courses imparted at the Institute is made on merit on all India basis by holding an entrance examination by the Institute, after issuing a countrywide admission notice. The admission notice is published in leading English newspapers of India usually during August/ September and March / April for January and July Sessions respectively.

Eligibility

Medical Qualification
MBBS with minimum 55% aggregate marks or MD/MS in the subject concerned or Diplomat of National Board of Examination. A “Failure” in the examination, “Compartment” or “Re-appear” in the examination will constitute an attempt Candidates who have obtained MBBS/MD/MS degree from Medical Colleges which are not recognized by the Medical Council of India are not eligible to apply.

Eligibility for Non Medical/Social Behavioural Sciences: 

The candidates with the following qualifications will be eligible

a) The candidates who have passed M.Sc/MA or its equivalent/examination with at least 60 % marks in the subjects mentioned below: from the colleges/institutes recognized by the UGC/Panjab University are eligible

Life Sciences:
A degree of Master of Sciences (M.Sc) or Master in Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc) or M.Sc (Laboratory Technology) or M.Sc (Speech & Hearing) in subjects allied to Medical Sciences such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Human Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Immunology, Life Sciences including Botany, Zoology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Organic Chemistry, Anthropology & M.Sc (Human Genomics)

Social Behavioural Sciences:
The candidates with the following subjects are eligible for Social Behavioural Sciences; Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Nursing, Nutrition, Child Development.
MA/ M.Sc/ M.Phil in Health Promotion/Education, Health Management, Epidemiology, Environmental Health/ Environmental Sciences and Public Health Nutrition/ Applied Nutrition/ Food and Nutrition, Health Economics/ Applied Economics /Economics, Public Health/ Community Health and MPH.
Post graduation in Law i.e. LLM and its equivalent qualification

OR

b ) Have qualified NET examination (with fellowship only) conducted by UGC, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) examination conducted by ICMR/CSIR etc (within two years only). Attested copy of the result must be attached. If the candidate fails to produce the proof of his/her eligibility as per above qualification before one week of the entrance examination, his/her candidature will not be considered an entire responsibility for the same will lie on the candidate.

Method of Selection

The candidates seeking admission to PhD program of this Institute will have to appear in the entrance exam consisting of 100 marks as per details given below:
i) Aptitude test - Covering general Science, English, Biostatistics and Research Methodology: 30 marks
ii) Specialty theory test (multiple choice questions for the respective theory): 50 marks
(a) Medical MBBS level or;
(b) Non Medical Sciences or;
(c) Social and Behavioural Sciences
There will be negative marking to the extent of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in the theory paper: 20 marks
iii) Evaluation by the department concerned

Application Fees

The following dues are payable to the Institute, by the candidates admitted to the various courses mentioned above:
(a) Registration Fee: Rs.500/-, (b) Tuition Fee: Rs.350/- per annum, (c) Laboratory Fee: Rs.900/- per annum, (d) Amalgamated Fund: Rs.60 per month, (e) Security: Rs.1000/- (refundable only after completion of course) (f) Hostel Security: Rs.6000/- (refundable) to the deposited with the Administrative Officer (Hostel) if hostel accommodation is allotted
The first installment of fees for six months is required to be paid immediately after selection

How to Apply

The candidate should fill his/her application form available on the PGI website http://pgimer.edu.in. The application, complete in all respects accompanied with all the relevant documents should reach the office of Registrar, PGIMER, Sector-12, Chandigarh on or before the closing date.

Procedure for Online Application Form:
i) After opening the PGIMER website i.e. www.pgimer.edu.in, the candidate will open the Application Form available on the website and fill up various columns
ii) After filling up all the columns, the candidate will generate Challan Form and deposit the requisite fee in any Branch of State Bank of India anywhere in India; after that the candidate fill the Challan Form No./I-collect No. in the Application Form
iii) The candidate will download / print the filled Application for and paste a photograph on the available space and place his/her signature on the Application Form
iv) The candidate will attach all the relevant certificates /Annexures and Challan Form with the Application and sent the same to the Registrar, PGIMER, Sector-12, Chandigarh

Fee -
i) For SC/ST Category: Rs.800/-
ii) For All other Categories: Rs.1000/-
