Important Dates

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai announces admission to the Online Certificate Program in Disaster Management 2020.

The program is meant for a wide variety of learners-practitioners in disaster management globally IFRC and National Society volunteers and staff at all levels and others interested in disaster management and humanitarian response.

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936, as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared deemed to be a university under section 3 University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

• Applicants should have Bachelor's degree or the overseas equivalent although each application is judged on its own merits and exceptions to this entry requirement may be made.
• Applicants who do not have a Bachelor's degree or the overseas equivalent may apply if they can demonstrate (via a personal statement) that they are highly motivated, and have experience of prior learning.
• Up to 50 qualified participants will be selected to participate in each course.
• Candidates from developing countries and those working in the humanitarian field will receive priority. Ability to work on computer with reasonable level of access to the Internet.

Admission Procedure :

The candidates should submit their application only by Online. The Information Brochure is available on the website of the Programme as well as the website of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, www.tiss.edu

Candidates should submit the following documents to be attached with the form:

• SOP (Check Guidelines for SOP)
• Resume
• Recent reference letters* (Check guidelines for Reference letters)
• Graduation Degree certificate/ Transcript Certificate**
• IFRC/RCRC/ICRC affiliation (only for candidates related with IFRC/RCRC/ICRC)

Of the above mentioned documents SOP and Resume/CV are compulsory. However, if the application is selected for further processing, based on the information given in the application form, the candidate will be contacted for other supporting documents.

Note:

* If you are applying for Bursary/Scholarship, your SOP and references letters should support your bursary requirements.

** In case of the applicants who do not hold a graduate degree and have done any Diploma course, or Certificate course and Disaster Management related training can submit relevant documents.

Bursary / Scholarship

A limited number of bursaries are on offer on merit and means basis. Applicants for the bursary should complete the bursary section in the application process and ensure that they demonstrate the need for this through following documents:-

• Statement of Purpose (SOP) should have a separate section for bursary justification. A candidate applying for bursary will not be considered eligible if the justification or need of bursary assistance is absent from the SOP.
• Your references letters along with your academic/professional credentials should support your bursary requirements.
• The last date for bursary application (Cohort VIII) is  26th March 2019, 23: 59 hrs IST (GMT+5.30 hrs)

Selection Process

A selection committee comprising of members from TISS and IFRC will select up to 50 qualified including bursaries participants for the Cohort VIII of this course based on merit and relevance. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree or the overseas equivalent, although each application is judged on its own merits and exceptions to this entry requirement may be made for deserving candidate.

The selected candidates will be informed through email.
