Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) : Recruitment & Selection

The recruitment will be done by the Rally System. The range DIG with the approval of ADG/ IG will send re­cruitment teams to specified areas twice a year in the month of April-May and October- November. The Board of officers will consist of a Commandant, two gazetted officer including a Medical Officer and a Co-opted member.

All the selections are made on the basis of written test, physical test, medical test, trade test, typing test in the respective categories. Candidates must have good medical standards and eye vision. The eligibility such as age, educational qualification, experience should be verified from the original certificate produced by the candidates. Those who do not conform to the eligibility criteria as advertised, will not be considered. 

SC, ST, OBC, Ex-Servicemen and other categories of personnel in accordance with the instructions issued by the Government from time to time get reservation, age relaxation, and relaxation in physical measurements.

The recruitment process for various post in CRPF is as follows : 

Assistant Commandant | Sub Inspector | Constable | Assistant Sub- Inspector | Head Constable | Followers |

Assistant Commandant 

On the basis of Written Test, Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Interview

The written exam consists of two papers totaling 300 marks

After qualifying the written test, the candidates has to undergo the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) comprising :

  1. 100m. Race to be completed in 16 seconds (Men) and 18 seconds (Women)

  2. 800m. Race to be completed in 3 min (Men) and 4 min. (Women)

  3. Long Jump: 3.50m for men and 3 m for Women.

  4. High Jump: 1.05m for men and 0.90m for women.

  5. Short Putt (7.26 kg): 4.50m. for men only

The candidate will be given 3 chances to qualify the minimum requirement in long jump, high jump and short putt. Failure in any one of these events leads to disqualification.

On clearing the PET, you will be called in for an interview. Here your psyche and aptitude will be assessed along with your general awareness and general intelligence. Preference in selection is given to outstanding sports men & NCC cadets who have a good record. 

Finally you have to clear a medical examination and then make it into the merit list. 

Engineering and Medial professionals can also enter the Medical and Technical wings of the CRPF at the level of Assistant Commandant or above through the same selection procedure.

Medical Officers

The post of Medical Officers are filled up by direct recruitment, failing which, by transfer on deputation or transfer of suitable persons holding equivalent or analogous posts under the Central or State Governments or Public Sector Undertaking or Autonomous bodies, or transfer on deputation or re-employment of Medical Officers of Army Medical Crops, possessing the qualifications prescribed for direct recruits.
Age limit: 
Between 23 and 30 years (relaxable for government servants and released Army Medical Crops Officers upto five years in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the government).
Educational Qualification :
i) A recognized Medical qualifications included in the First Schedule or the Second Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956) and enrolment in any State Medical Register maintained under that act.
ii) Compulsory rotatory internship
Physical Standard 
Height : 157 Cms. relaxable by 2 cms for Gorkhas, Garwalis, Kumaonees,Dogras, Marathas and 3 Cms in respect of Adivasis and female candidates.
Chest  : 77 Cms. unexpanded and 82 Cms expanded.
Weight : Proportionate to the height and age

 

Sub Inspector

On the basis of Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Written Test and Interview

The candidates who on screening are found medically fit are allowed to appear in Physical Efficiency Test. The test consists of:

Those who clear physical efficiency test are allowed to appear in a written examination carrying 300 marks. It consists of: 

Written test is followed by an interview, which carries 100 marks. Final selection is subject to passing the medical examination.

Officers Direct Recruitment
Sub-Inspector (Cryptographers) 
  • A degree from a recognised University with English & Mathematics and also Matric with English, Maths and Physics.
  • Pass the selection Aptitude test.
  • Must Confirm to the CRPF physical standard.

Note - The percentage of direct recruitment and promotion from feeder posts has been fixed as 10% & 90% respectively.

 

Sub-Inspector (Radio Operator)
  • A degree from a recognized university with Maths, Physics, Statistics or computer science as one of the main subject.
  • pass the Selection Aptitude Test.
  • Must conform to the CRPF physical standard .

Note:- As ling as suitable departmental candidates are available no direct recuitment will be carried out except in very exceptional cases. The percentage of direct recruitment and promotion from feeder posts has been fixed as 10% & 90% respectively

Sub-Inspector (Technical)
  • Graduate in Engg. Telecommunication/ Electronics/ Computer Science or Qualified A.M.I.E or Grade I.E.T.E .
  • Must pass the Selection Aptitude Test.
  • Must conform to the CRPF physical standard 

Note - As long as suitable departmental candidate are available no direct recruitment will be carried out except in very exceptional cases. The percentage of direct recruitment and promotion from feeder posts has been fixed as 10% & 90% respectively.

 

Constable

On the basis of Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Written Test and Interview

The candidates who on screening are found medically fit are allowed to appear in Physical Efficiency Test. The test consists of:

Those who clear physical efficiency test are allowed to appear in a written examination consisting questions on General Awareness, elementary Maths and basic knowledge of English/Hindi. It is followed by an interview. Final selection is subject to passing the medical examination.

 

Followers

Candidates, who are found fit in eligibility and PET will be put through respective Trade Test. Test is to be prescribed as per requirement of the job. Trade Test  conducting for various categories of Followers are :

Post Trade Test
Cook Cooking of Chapati & Rice
Cooking of Veg./Dal/Sambhar/Idli etc. for about 100 men.
Cooking of Meat/Fish/Egg/Kheer
Water Carrier Washing of Vessles
Kneading of Atta for making Chapaties for about 100 men
Cutting of Vegetable etc.
Barber Handling of tools
Hair Cutting
Shaving
Washerman Washing of clothes
Ironing of Khaki cotton uniform
Ironing of woolen TC uniform
Safai Karamchari  Sweeping
Cleaning of Toilets
Cleaning of Bathrooms etc.

The candidates will be medically examined after the Trade Test, to assess their physical and medical fitness as prescribed in the eligibility conditions. Those who fail in the Medical examination will not be considered far the post of Followers. A merit list will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the VIII Class from a recognised Central / State School and the marks obtained in the trade test of particular job.

 

Head Constable

Candidates will be required to be in possession of the following qualifications.

Direct Recruitment  Departmental Candidates 
Radio Operator
  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with English, Mathematics and Physics or General Science.
  • Must have passed the selection aptitude test.
  • Conform to the CRPF physical standards as laid down.

 

  • CT/GD with six years of service and must have passed 10+2 with English, Mathematics, Physics or General Science. 
  • Minimum 6 years of service is required for remustering. 
  • A clear record of service. 
  • Must qualify the ROG-III Aptitude Test.
Note - The method of recruitment will be remustering from Constable( GD) failing which the vacancies of HC(RO) Will be filled up through Direct Recruitment from open market. 
Radio Fitter
  • Passed Matric with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English and two year Diploma in Electrical Engineering From a recognized I.T.I.
  • Must pass the Selection Aptitude test. 
  • Must conform to the CRPF physical standard. 
Head Constable (Radio Operator ) will be eligible for conversion to Radio Fitter provided :
  • 2 years service as HC (RO). 
  • Opted for the Radio Fitter’s trade voluntarily. Option once exercised will be final. 
  • Must pass the Selection Aptitude test. 
  • Must undergo Basic Radio Fitter Courses and qualify successfully.
Note - The percentage of direct recruitment and remustering of departmental candidates has been fixed as 20% & 80% respectively.
Crypto
  • Degree with English and Mathematics and should have passed Metric with English, Maths & Physics.
  • Must pass the selection Aptitude test.
  • Must conform to the CRPF physical standard.
Head Constable ( Radio Operator) will be eligible for conversion to crypto category provided :-
  • 2 Years service as Head Constable ( Radio Operator).
  • Opted for the crypto category voluntarily. Option once exercised will be final.
  • Must pass the selection Aptitude test.
  • Must undergo police Basic Cipher Course and qualify successfully.
Note - The percentage of direct recruitment and remustering of departmental candidates has been fixed as 20% & 80% respectively.

 

Assistant Sub- Inspector (Ministerial Staff)

Direct Recruitment  Departmental Candidates 
Assistant Sub- Inspector (Technical)
  • Matric with English, Physics, Mathematics with 3 years diploma in Radio Engineering/ Electronics/Computer.
  • Preference will be given to those trained in Software/ Hardware of Computer.
  • Must pass the Selection Aptitude Test.
  • Conform to the CRPF physical standard as laid down.

 

Head Constable (Radio Fitters) will be eligible for conversion if in possession of following qualifications:-
  • 2 years as Radio Fitter
  • A clear record of service.
  • Pass the Selection Aptitude Test.
  • Candidates with above qualifications will be remustered as ASI(Tech) on successful completion of Basic Radio Mechanic Course.
The percentage of direct recruitment and remustering of departmental candidates has been fixed as 70% & 30% respectively.
Assistant Sub- Inspector (Draftsman)
  • Matriculation with English, Science and Mathematics and two years Drafts Man Course from a recognized I.T.I. 
  • Must pass the selection Test. 
  • Confirm to the CRPF physical standards as laid down.

Note -  The vacancies will be filled through direct recruitment only.
