John Wright scholarship, offered by Southern Institute of Technology (SIT), is an exclusive opportunity for aspiring Indian candidates interested in sports. Named after John Wright, former coach of the Indian National Cricket team from New Zealand, this scholarship provides the students a chance to study internationally to further themselves in sport or in a field that will be supportive of the sports industry. With a wide portfolio of over 135 courses, the applicants will have the opportunity to pursue a course and career of their choice.

SIT, the fifth largest polytechnic in New Zealand, is a state owned polytechnic located in Invercargill, Southland. Five scholarships are available at SIT and these scholarships are offered for the following programmes : 

As a part of the programme a full fee scholarship of an amount varying between NZ $ 14000 (INR 4,34,000/-) to NZ $ 18,000 (INR 5,58,000/-) will be provided to deserving students. SIT will also assist the students in securing part-time jobs during their study and full-time jobs in Southland on completion of their studies, if they desire. 

Each John Wright-SIT Scholarship will be for a period of between 12-18 months and applications are likely to be accepted from May. The scholarships are offered on the condition that the successful applicants are available to represent Southland cricket during the summer season.

Eligibility

John Wright Scholarship is open to both men and women. The person can be a player, a coach, an event manager, or have any background that will be clearly supported and identifiable as being supportive of the sporting industry. They need to be able to bring something to the sporting community and must have an academic record which indicates that have a likelihood of success and skills in English.

Application Procedure

Application forms can be downloaded from the SIT website www.sit.ac.nz. The filled in original copy of the application has to be sent to 'Southern Institute of Technology, Private Bag 90114, Invercargill New Zealand' by registered post along with verified copies of transcripts of the candidates academic records, copy of passport, recent IELTS, TOEFL results and a passport size photograph. If relevant, details of work experience and a portfolio of your work can also be enclosed. 

If the application is accepted, the candidate will receive a letter offering a place on the course from Southern Institute of technology. The candidates are required to accept this offer by signing the enrolment contract and returning it by fax and mail and paying the course fee and the additional funds as outlined in the letter of offer and invoice. The payments should be made in NZ dollars by telegraphic transfer or credit card, to SIT's bank account. If the information provided in the application is incorrect in any significant way, SIT reserves the right to terminate the place on the programme.

Requests for application forms can also be sent via authorised agents or through applications@sit.ac.nz The institute will respond with the forms and recommendations of agents to use in support of all of the processes required to be completed for studies.
