Rhodes Scholarship : Procedure after Selection
After selection or rather election the candidates or Scholars (Scholars
elect) as they are called are given necessary materials to make applications
to the University of Oxford. Scholars elect are required to do this in
the first week of December. Conformation of scholarship is subject to
the acceptance of the scholar by the college and by the concerned facility
if the scholar has applied for a research degree.
Duration : Two years is the maximum period for which Rhodes Scholarship
is awarded but can be extended to a third year at the discretion of the
Trustees. The Trustees may consider granting a third year only if they
are convinced that this is in the interest of the scholar's studies and
future career. For this a candidate must have a satisfactory conduct and
general record.
Stipend: The scholarship amount covers the approved University
and College fees and other charges and the payment is made directly to
the Scholar's college. The scholarship amount also covers living expenses
for term-time and vacations. The Trust also manages the cost of Scholar's
air travel (economy class) to the United Kingdom and return to India after
completion of studies at Oxford. The tenure of other awards in conjunction
with the Rhodes Scholarship is not permitted without prior consultation
with the Secretary of the Trust in Oxford.
Courses: A Scholar may apply for any graduate degree offered by University
of Oxford - MSc, MSt, MLitt, BCL, MPhil, BPhil (Philosophy only), DPhil
etc. BPhil may be awarded in Philosophy only. MPhil may be attempted in
European History, General and Comparative Literature, Greek and Latin
Languages and Literature International Relations, Latin American Studies,
