Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), the first
of its kind in India, was established in the year 1989. TANUVAS, in its 25th
year of existence and excellence, celebrates its Silver Jubilee form 2014. TANUVAS
continues to strive in ensuring excellence in education, research and extension
in the fields of veterinary, animal and food sciences. Recognizing the unequivocal
contributions of TANUVAS to growth and development of livestock, poultry and
food sectors, the Indian Council of Agricultural of Research has showered it
with the coveted Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award 2011 in the
year 2012, a distinction no other Veterinary University in the country has received,
which stands as a testimony to the excellence and accomplishments of TANUVAS
in education, research and extension activities of livestock and poultry sectors
concerned.
TANUVAS has six constituent colleges as below:
- Madras Veterinary College (Chennai);
- Veterinary College and Research Institute (Namakkal);
- Veterinary College and Research Institute (Orathanadu, Thanjavur);
- Veterinary College and Research Institute (Tirunelveli);
- College of Food and Dairy Technology (Koduvalli, Chennai); and
- College of Poultry Production and Management (Hosur).
TANUVAS also has Eight Research Stations, 20 Veterinary University Training
and Research Centers, three Krishi Vigyan Kendras, three Farmers’ Training Centres,
11 Research Laboratories, two Ethno-Veterinary Herbal Training and Research
Centres, one Central Feed Technology Unit, one Agricultural Technology Information
Centre, and one Veterinary University Training and Diagnostic Centre, Madurai,
spread across the State to take care of research and extension needs of the
livestock and poultry sectors.
MVSc / MTech (FT) DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Eligibility criteria for admission
MVSc degree programmes
- Candidates possessing a BVSc / BVSc & AH degree of Tamil Nadu Veterinary
and Animal Sciences University or any other University recognized as equivalent
thereof shall be eligible to apply. The candidates should have completed their
degrees from colleges recognized by the Veterinary Council of India.
- Only 75% of the admission strength for the year is available for the candidates
from Tamil Nadu. The remaining 25% is reserved for candidates from other states
through ICAR. If there are any unfilled seats, in state quota, the same will
be filled with candidates from other states who have applied and appeared
for the entrance examination conducted by the University. The candidates from
other states will be considered for admission by maintaining a separate rank
list only against the vacancies that may arise from the state quota.
- Candidates from other states cannot claim admission in the quota reserved
for Tamil Nadu state candidates as a matter of right on the basis of merit.
- Candidates who are seeking admission under Tamil Nadu state quota to the
MVSc degree courses excepting those who have undergone Undergraduate degree
course (BVSc & AH) in Tamil Nadu on selection from Tamil Nadu state quota
should furnish a Nativity Certificate issued by the competent authority in
the prescribed format in the application form.
- Candidates with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50
out of 10.00 or 65% aggregate under semester pattern alone are eligible to
apply for admission to MVSc degree programme. Candidates who have studied
under conventional system should possess a minimum of 55% marks in their Bachelor’s
degree. Candidates who have passed BVSc & AH degree under the Veterinary
Council of India (VCI) regulations should have obtained a minimum of 55% marks.
For SC / ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient.
MTech (Food Technology) degree programme
- Candidates possessing a BTech (FPT / FT) degree of Tamil Nadu Veterinary
and Animal Sciences University or candidates who have studied a four years
degree programme in Food Processing Technology / Food Technology / Food Engineering
/ Dairy Technology or equivalent Engineering or Technology course from a recognised
University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereof shall
be eligible to apply.
- Candidates with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50
out of 10.00 or 65% aggregate under semester pattern alone are eligible to
apply for admission to MTech (FT) degree programme. Candidates who have studied
under conventional system should possess a minimum of 55% marks in their Bachelor’s
degree. For SC/ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient.
Mode of selection
The selection of candidates for admission to MVSc / MTech degree programmes
shall be done on the basis of the marks obtained in the Common Entrance Examination
and the qualifying examination marks obtained in the BVSc & AH / BTech degree
programes.
PhD DEGREE PROGRAMMES IN VETERINARY & ANIMAL SCIENCES, FOOD TECHNOLOGY
AND BIOTECHNOLOGY
PhD DEGREE PROGRAMMES IN VETERINARY & ANIMAL SCIENCES
Eligibility criteria for admission
- Only 75% of the admission strength for the year is available for the candidates
from Tamil Nadu. The remaining 25% is reserved for candidates from other states
through ICAR. If there are any unfilled seats, in state quota, the same will
be filled with candidates from other states who have applied and appeared
for the entrance examination conducted by the University. The candidates from
other states will be considered for admission by maintaining a separate rank
list only against the vacancies that may arise from the state quota.
- Candidates who are seeking admission under Tamil Nadu state quota to the
PhD Degree Programme in Veterinary and Animal Sciences, except those who have
undergone Undergraduate Degree course (BVSc & AH) in Tamil Nadu on selection
from Tamil Nadu state quota, should furnish a Nativity Certificate issued
by the competent authority in the prescribed format in the application form.
- Candidates with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50
out of 10.00 under semester system or 65% marks in the Masters degree alone
are eligible to apply for admission to PhD degree programme in Veterinary
and Animal Sciences. For SC / ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient.
- Candidates who have graduated at Masters level in one discipline cannot
seek admission in another discipline.
- Candidates with BVSc & AH degree and Masters degree in the concerned
field of specialization from a recognized University shall alone be eligible
to apply (Except Animal Biotechnology and Livestock Products Technology).
- However, for PhD in Animal Biotechnology, candidates with MVSc degree in
any field of
specialization (except Animal Husbandry Economics, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry
Extension and Animal Husbandry Statistics) or M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology
with basic BVSc & AH degree recognized as equivalent thereto shall be
eligible to apply.
- For PhD in Livestock Products Technology, candidates with MVSc degree in
Dairy Science (or) Meat Science and Technology (or) Livestock Products Technology
with a basic BVSc & AH degree recognized as equivalent thereto shall be
eligible to apply
PhD DEGREE PROGRAMMES IN FOOD TECHNOLOGY
Candidates with M.Sc in Food Technology, Food Science and Technology, Post
Harvest Technology, Food Processing Technology, Food Process Engineering, Dairy
Technology, Dairy Engineering, Biochemistry/Food Chemistry and candidates with
Master Degree in Food Technology related engineering subjects shall be eligible
to apply. Candidates with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system
or 6.50 out of 10.00 under semester system or 55% marks in conventional system
in masters degree alone are eligible for admission to PhD in Food Technology.
For SC / ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient.
PhD DEGREE PROGRAMMES IN BIOTECHNOLOGY
Candidates with Master degree in the disciplines of Biotechnology (M.Sc./M.Tech.)
Molecular Biology, Gene Technology, Animal Biotechnology (M.Sc.,) Biochemistry,
Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, Genetics, Marine Biology, Life Sciences
and Fisheries Sciences (except Fisheries Economics, Fisheries Statistics and
Fisheries Extension) from recognized Universities with first class shall be
eligible to apply
Mode of selection : Candidates for PhD degree programme will
be selected based on the marks obtained in the Entrance Examination
M.Sc. IN BIOINFORMATICS
Any graduate with a minimum qualification of BVSc, BVSc & AH, MBBS, BDS,
or BSc degree in any branch of Agriculture/Life Sciences/Genetics/ Biochemistry/
Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/
Microbiology/ Pharmacology or equivalent of Indian or Foreign University with
an OGPA of 2.75/4.00 in trimester system or 6.50/10.00 in semester system or
50% in conventional system shall be eligible to apply. A minimum pass is sufficient
for SC / ST candidates.
Number of seats: 2
M.Sc. IN BIOTECHNOLOGY
A Candidate with Bachelor degree in the disciplines of Biotechnology, Molecular
Biology, Gene Technology, Animal Biotechnology (General stream, 3 years programme),
Biochemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, Genetics, Marine Biology
and Fisheries Sciences and other Life Sciences From recognized Universities
shall be eligible to apply.
Number of Seats: 10
Mode of selection : The selection of candidates for admission
to MSc (Bioinformatics) will be based on the marks obtained in the entrance
examination and the qualifying examination marks.
POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN VETERINARY LABORATORY DIAGNOSIS and POSTGRADUATE
DIPLOMA IN COMPANION ANIMAL PRACTICE
Candidates possessing a BVSc/ BVSc & AH degree of Tamil Nadu Veterinary
and Animal Sciences University or any other University recognized as equivalent
thereto shall be eligible to apply with an OGPA of 2.75/4.00 in trimester system
or 6.50/10.00 in semester system or 50% in conventional system shall be eligible
to apply. A minimum pass is sufficient for SC/ ST candidates
Number of seats for each course
(i) PG Diploma in Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosis : 6
(ii) PG Diploma in Companion Animal Practice : 6
Mode of selection : The selection of candidates for admission
to Post Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosis / Companion Animal
Practice will be based on the marks obtained in the entrance examination and
the qualifying examination marks obtained in the BVSc / BVSc & AH course.

Application forms and Prospectus for admission to the following Postgraduate
degree / Diploma programmes can be downloaded from our website: www.tanuvas.tn.nic.in/
- Separate application for MVSc, PhD, MTech (Food Technology), MSc (Bioinformatics),
MSc (Biotechnology) PG Diploma in Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosis and Companion
Animal Practice needs to be submitted.
- Application form along with Hall ticket and Prospectus can be downloaded
from the University Website - www.tanuvas.ac.in
- Candidates are requested to study the prospectus carefully before filling
up the application form.
- Candidates possessing the minimum qualifications as prescribed in the prospectus
alone will be considered.
- Candidates are requested to fill up the application form in their own handwriting
only.
- All columns should be correctly and completely filled in. There should
not be any overwriting / error.
- Application with incomplete particulars will summarily be rejected.
- No addition, deletion or alteration of any particulars relating to the
application is permitted after the submission of the application.
- Recent passport size photograph should be affixed in the space provided
in the application form and hall ticket.
- Application form should be sent with Registration fee (Rs.500/- for SC/ST
and Rs.1000/- for others).
- Registration fee should be sent only in the form of Demand Draft drawn
in favour of “Finance Officer, TANUVAS, Chennai-51” payable at Chennai.
- Applications received after the prescribed due date and time will not be
considered on any account. The University will not take any responsibility
for postal delays. The candidates are therefore advised to send their applications
sufficiently early.
- Last date for receipt of the application will be the cutoff date for all
eligibility conditions.
- APPLICATIONS WITHOUT REGISTRATION FEE WILL SUMMARILY BE REJECTED.
- Those who are claiming community reservation should furnish the certificate
obtained from the competent authority. However, the employees of Tamil Nadu
Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Government of Tamil Nadu can
enclose attested copy of first page of their Service Register in proof of
community claim.
- Employees of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University/State
or Central Government or Other organizations should send their applications
through proper channel.
- Selected candidates should join the course on or before the specified date,
failing which their names will be deleted and resultant vacancies will be
filled up by other eligible wait listed candidates through Counselling.
- Candidates selected for admission will have to give a declaration and an
undertaking at the time of admission.
- The following original documents must be submitted at the time of admission:
i) Provisional/Degree certificate of Bachelor’s and Masters degree
ii) Transfer Certificate/Migration Certificate
iii) Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied
iv) Mark Sheets/Report Cards / Transcript Card of Bachelor’s and Masters degree
v) Community Certificate
Failure to submit any of the above documents will make the candidate ineligible
for admission.
- All the candidates admitted under these categories should abide by the
Academic Rules and Regulations prescribed in the Act, Statutes, Rules and
Regulations (ASRR) of the University, which may be subject to revision from
time to time.
