AISECT, a nationwide leader in skills education, has partnered with Odisha Government for implementation of centrally sponsored programme of 'Vocationalization of Secondary, Higher Secondary Education' under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). The programme will be implemented in 44 government-run secondary and higher secondary schools across the state. Under the partnership, AISECT will provide Vocational training sessions in IT-ITeS and Retail sectors in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Khorda and Cuttack.

Around 1800 students across five districts are expected to be benefitted by the programme. In last Financial Year, AISECT was partnered with Odisha Madhyamik Shiksha Mision and imparted vocational training to 2,768 candidates under IT-ITeS trade in 42 schools and under Retail trade in 20 Schools of the State. NSQF is a centrally sponsored scheme that aims at vocationalisation of secondary and higher education by linking employability education with school education. It organizes all qualifications according to a series of levels of knowledge, skills and aptitude. These levels, graded from one to ten, are defined in terms of learning outcomes, which the learner must possess regardless of whether they are obtained through formal, non-formal or informal learning.

In Odisha, the Odisha Madhyamik Shiksha Mission has collaborated with AISECT for implementation of its NSQF ambitions.

Under the agreement, AISECT will offer skill development and training programs in the IT-ITeS sector at 19 schools in Mayurbhanj district, 6 in Keonjhar, 3 in Jajpur, one in Khorda and 7 in Cuttack district. AISECT will also impart skills training to students in Retail sector at one school in Khorda and 7 in Cuttack district. Along with regular training sessions,AISECT will also provide field and industry visits, best-in- class exposure and reputed trainers to all its units under the partnership. A total of 1800 candidates are expected to benefit from these skill development training. AISECT Director Sidhart Chaturvedi said with the current education system heavily tilted towards formal degrees,'' we face an acute shortage of workforce possessing skills for the challenges in their field of employment. We need to create an appropriate balance between formal education and vocational education; and National Skills Qualification Framework is an illustrious step in that direction. AISECT is implementing NSQF's recommendations in 744 schools across 11 states in sectors of IT/ITes, Retail, BFSI and Telecom; and has so far trained over 24,800 candidates in FY 2016-17 alone.
