India and Germany on Tuesday inked what is being said as a landmark memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to focus on the field of dual vocational education and training and skill development.

"Under the provisions of the new pact, the students who complete specific training courses here in India will get a certificate that is recognized in India and facilitates its recognition in Germany," an official sources said here. Underlining the importance of 'Skilling India', German Ambassador to India Martin Ney said, "Growth must mean job for the young generation.''The students who complete specific training courses would be now eligible to apply for jobs in India and also in Germany.

The idea of MoA first came during an interaction between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2015.

KP Krishnan, Secretary to the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and German Minister, Johanna Wanka, had signed a joint declaration of intent in May and the joint working group of the two governments spelled it out in October.

According to German officials, the pact has a significant importance on bilateral ties and will have youths in more ways than one because the entire mechanism is owned by the industry and will not be government based.

From the German side, Indo German Chamber of Commerce DG Bernhard Steinrcke signed the pact.
