In a bid to reduce curriculum load of school children, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is reviewing its syllabus.

For this purpose, it has invited suggestions from teachers, students, parents and other stake holders through web portal on the reduction of curriculum load.

Various stakeholders have been demanding rationalisation of school syllabus as it was found to be heavy, leaving children with no time and promoting rote learning, Minister of State for HRD Upendra Kushwaha informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

Interested parties can submit their suggestions through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) website till April 6, 2018. In addition, NCERT has placed an advertisement in the newspapers informing the stakeholders about the MHRD's website for sending their suggestions on rationalising curriculum burden.

Analysis of NCERT's syllabi and textbooks across subject areas and classes will focus on learning outcomes, curriculum linkages across classes and subjects, overlapping in the content (science and geography; physics and chemistry, etc); comprehensibility of language and age-appropriateness of content and diverse contexts.

The idea was to develop framework for Experiential Learning through mapping of curricular concepts, life skills and values for holistic development of children.
