New courses for self employment in UP

New courses in technical education have been launched by the Uttar Pradesh government for promoting the self employment.

The state government has issued no objection certificate to 266 technical education institutes for starting the diploma and graduate degree courses in pharmacy. The government has also granted permission for opening 50 new pharmacy colleges in the state.

The government is also in the process of developing new courses in mining engineering, textile engineering and energy conservation. The mining engineering course will commence from next academic session 2019-20 at Jhansi polytechnic.

Presently the UP technical education runs 3 technical universities, 14 engineering colleges, 136 polytechnic and 19 private polytechnics. Besides this 4 new government engineering colleges and 38 polytechnics are under various stages of construction.

State technical education minister Ashutosh Tandon said here on Monday that keeping in view the requirement of the rapid technological changes in the industry 6 new diploma engineering courses are being developed on the model of national skill qualification framework. The National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) is a competency-based framework that organizes all qualifications according to a series of levels of knowledge, skills and aptitude, implemented by the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship.

The minister said training and placement officers have been appointed in all state run polytechnics for the placement of the diploma holders. He said in 10 government polytechnics regional placement cell have been established and central placement cell has been established in Lucknow. He said the objective of the placement cell is to impart training in soft skill, entrepreneurship and personality development

for their placement. He said so far 12,416 students have got placemen through the `Rojgar Mela'

and campus interview at Lucknow, NOIDA and Gorakhpur.

For regulating the fees charged by the private engineering colleges the state government has so far fixed the fee to be charged by these colle3ges under ``UP private engineering colleges (regulation of admission and fixation of Fee rules 2015.

The minister said for improving the academic quality in polytechnics semester system of examination has been implemented.

He said earlier holding the annual examination and declaring results used to be a challenging task and declaration of result was delayed. He said this year the results were declared in a record time of 45 days. He said for the first time in the history of technical education in UP, a joint convocation of government and private polytechnics was organized in October 2017 at Allahabad where diploma were given to 45,000 students.

He said for better coordination between the technical institutes giving diploma and degree education a new post of director general technical education has been created. He said an officer from the state cadre of IAS would soon be appointed to this post.
