Bihar government today decided to pay scholarship to students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
A proposal to that effect was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Briefing mediapersons about the cabinet decision, state Principal Secretary (cabinet secretariat department) Brajesh Mehrotra said a sum of Rs 39.15 crore was sanctioned for payment of post matric scholarship to students from SCs and STs during the current year. He said nearly 24,000 students would be benefitted under the scheme. Mr Mehrotra said all SC and ST students enrolled till the end of financial year 2015-16 would be paid academic and compulsory fees through transfer of amounts in their respective bank accounts.
In another cabinet decision, Principal Secretary said the contract of 52 associate professors employed in various government engineering colleges would be renewed.
