Students from next academic session will have to pay only for the semester or the year in which he/she wants to take admission and the Higher Education Institutions will not be able to charge advance fees for the entire programme.
"The students of our country were facing several problems during admissions
due to coercive and profiteering institutional practices being adopted by some
institutions. The Modi government has decided to stop this practice and
therefore the University Grants Commission has brought a notification on refund
of fees and non retention of original certificates," said Human Resource
Development Minister Prakash Javadekar at a press briefing here on Wednesday.
The UGC notification provides 100 per cent refund of fees in case a student
decides to withdraw 15 days or more before the formally notified last date of
admission. Not more than 5 per cent of the fees paid by the student, subject to
a maximum of Rs 5000, will be deducted as processing charges.
