US Consulate to provide English language skills to financially disadvantaged students

US Consulate, through its English Access Micro Scholarship programme, will be skilling 30 youngsters of Kolkata based NGO Jungle Crows Foundation in English language.

Under the programme, children in the age group of 13-20 years from economically disadvantaged backgrounds will be skilled in English language. After the programme, the students will be able attain English language efficiency that can help them to get better jobs, educational opportunities, and gain the ability to participate in and compete for future exchanges and study in the United States, the Consulate sources said.

US Consul General Patti Hoffman said, "The US government is extremely proud of the accomplishments of the English Access Micro scholarship programme since it was set up in 2004. If our business as diplomats is to build lasting relationships between Americans and people from the globe and in the process hopefully make the world a better place, then Access is the perfect tool."English Access Micro-scholarship Program is a two-year global scholarship programme supported by the US Department of State and is managed by the Regional English Language Office(RELO) in the US Embassy New Delhi. The Access program also empowers the participants with cross-cultural skills, computer skills, and critical thinking skills.
