Westford Institute of Film Technology (WIFT) a film, animation and visual effects institute based in Cochin was established in 2009 under Westford Academy and Training Private Limited. Initiated by a group of young professionals from the film industry, Westford Institute of Film Technology (WIFT) was started to provide quality education exclusively for film and media courses. Within a short span of time, WIFT has successfully found its place among the leading film institutes’ with its quality education, effectiveness of training and its facilities. This is a full time PG programme exclusively for young aspiring filmmakers, who wish to kick-start their career in film industry. To build a strong base in filmmaking, in the initial phase film screening sessions are given importance as it is always watching cinema contributes much to learning cinema. The second phase emphasis more on practical sessions on 5 key filmmaking disciplines- Screenplay, Direction, Cinematography, Sound designing and Editing and also on other filmmaking aspects like make-up, art, costume, acting, photography, etc. The students have to work on a number of short film projects under the guidance of the experts during this phase. Moving to the advanced specialization in the third phase the student has to opt for one discipline i.e. Direction or Cinematography as major specialization. The final diploma project forms the heart of the professional reel of the student. After the completion of the course the student must be confident and capable to work independently in the industry.
