Short course on Nutrition in Farm Animals Inaugurated at IVRI |

A 21-day short course on "Nutrition, productivity and product quality in farm animals" organised by the Centre of Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) in Animal Nutrition was inaugurated at Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar here today. The short course was organised by the Division of Animal Nutrition, wherein 20 participants including Researchers, teachers and subject matter specialists participated from different parts of the country. Speaking at the inaugural function, Chief Guest Dr Arun Varma, the former Assistant Director General (ANP), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi emphasised the importance of the short course and mentioned that the quality assurance of animal derived food is very important and care should be taken at all the stages of its production. The Director and Vice-Chancellor of IVRI, Dr R K Singh remarked that nutritional interventions for sustainable livestock production have huge implications in food security, poverty alleviation and fight against hunger and optimising farm animal nutrition is critical in effectively addressing the issues like shortage of feed resources, nutrient deficiencies, substandard husbandry practices, prevalence of animal diseases and animal welfare. In his brief report, Dr A K Verma, Director, CAFT and Head, Division of Animal Nutrition presented an overview of the division and main objectives of the short course. On this occasion, ICAR National professor, Dr D N Kamra; Former Head of the Division, Dr D K Agrawal; Heads of various divisions and faculty of animal nutrition division as well as other divisions of IVRI along with students and staff members were also present. |
