UK Education : Introduction

English language proficiency is very important for a student to study
in UK.
If English is not a student’s first language, most institutions
will ask for a qualification in English, or they may ask a student to
sit a test.
They will be required to successfully complete one of the following:
• An English preparatory programme
• TOEFL
(Test of English as a Foreign Language)
• IELTS
(International English Language Testing System)
• English language GCSE (grade C or above)
Eligibility varies according to course, UG and PG students should
have high mark scores along with language proficiency. Colleges and universities
will look at an applicant's qualifications, personal statement, academic
references, portifolio and statement of purpose of study to see if he/she
meet the standard requirements.
The GRE
(Graduate Record Examination) is the entrance test to be taken by the
students applying for a master degree in any field other than management
(most universities in the UK do not ask for a GRE score). All applicants
applying for a master in management or Business Administration major must
submit the result of Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
In addition to these tests, all students whose native language is not
English are required to take the Test of English as a foreign language
(TOEFL) or the IELTS.
