Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) is an independent recruitment agency in pursuance of the recommendations of the Gajendragadkar Committee. The board is charged with the responsibility of recruitment of Scientists and to such other posts and services as may be specified by the President, ICAR from time to time through competitive examinations / direct recruitment by selection etc.

For these recruitment two separate examinations are held namely Prelim - ARS / NET Examination and ARS - Main Examination. The Prelim - ARS / NET is a combined competitive examination for deciding eligibility for appearing in ARS - Main Examination as well as for determining eligibility for lecturer / assistant professor in the state agricultural universities (SAU’s) / other agriculture universities (AU’s). ARS - Main Examination are held for filling up the vacancies of Scientists in Agricultural Research Service (ARS) for the post/ services of :

Plant Genetics (earlier Genetics); Plant Breeding ; Economic Botany; Seed Technology ; Plant Pathology; Agricultural Entomology ; Plant Nematology (earlier Nematology); Agricultural Chemicals/ Organic Chemistry; Biochemistry (Plant Science) ; Plant Physiology ; Agricultural Biotechnology (Earlier Biotechnology -Agril. Sc.); Agricultural Microbiology (earlier Microbiology - Plant Sc.); Biochemistry (Animal Science); Animal Biotechnology (earlier Biotechnology-Animal Sc.); Veterinary Public Health ; Animal Reproduction and Gynaecology; Animal Genetics & Breeding; Livestock Production Management (earlier Livestock Production & Management); Fisheries Resource Management (earlier Fish & Fisheries Science); Fish Processing Technology; Agronomy ; Agricultural Physics; Pedology (earlier, Soil : Pedology); Soil Chemistry/Fertility/Microbiology (earlier Soil Science: Soil Chemistry/Fertility/Microbiology); Soil Physics/Soil and Water Conservation (earlier Soil Science: Soil Physics/Soil and Water Conservation; Agricultural Chemistry ; Agricultural Economics ; Home/Family Resource Management (earlier Home Management & Family Resource Management); Agricultural Extension; Agricultural Statistics ; Farm Machinery & Power ; Soil and Water Conservation Engineering; Dairy Microbiology; Mechanical Engineering ; Electrical Engineering; Electronics and Instrumentation ; Textile Chemistry; Textile Manufacture.

Those candidates who have clear their preliminary exam are only eligible to appear in the main examination. On the basis of the marks obtained in the main examination, the candidates are called for Viva-Voce. Successful candidates will be recommended for appointment as Scientists in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
