Quite a number of CAD programmes are available in the industry for designing and sketching purpose. These programmes can assist to execute 2D drawings, 3D drawings, renderings, shadings, engineering calculations, space planning, structural design, piping layouts, plant design, project management etc. Some among the CAD software's are AutoCAD (1982) and Autodesk Inventor (1999) from Auto Desk, Uni-Solid from Unigraphics, CATIA (Dassault Systems), Pro/Engineer (PTC), Mechanical Desktop, SolidWorks (1995), Ansys, Ideas, Adina etc. With advanced CAD programs, one can create animated images.

The most commonly used CAD software is AutoCAD from Autodesk. AutoCAD design training is available at colleges and universities or directly from an Autodesk Authorized Training Center (ATC).
