St.Joseph's College is an autonomous First Grade College , affiliated to the Bharathidasan University. It was established in 1844 by Fathers of Society of Jesus ( The Jesuits). It was originally affiliated to the then Madras University in 1869. The College celebrated its centenary in 1944, sesquicentenary in 1995 and acquired the Five Star status awarded by NAAC in 2000. It became autonomous in 1978 and was recognized by the University Grants Commission as a College with Potential for Excellence in 2004. It was nationally reaccredited by NAAC with A+ Grade in 2006.
The JIM campus is a self sufficient enclave with a number of conveniences thoughtfully provided. It consists of spacious class rooms,attractive study area,modern advance library,wide parking facilities which are comfortable.
JIM has a well furnished Auditorium with good acoustics that can accommodate conferences,seminars and workshops with a seating capacity of more than 250 members. The teaching sessions using audio visual technology and high-tech labs benefits greatly the students to acquire immense knowledge and skills in their trade.
Hostel Facility
The Hostel has 2 Blocks with 132 rooms (single and multiple beds) and 2 big halls which can accommodate a total of 518 students. The Hostel provides 2 Messes and there are 2 Dining halls with a modern kitchen. Visitors' Room, Reading cum Library Room, Music Room, Television Room, Indoor Games Room, Prayer cum Meeting Hall and a Public Address System are the other facilities of the hostel. Students will be admitted to the Hostel only after admission to the Institute.
The placement committee, a student body at JIM working in close coordination wiht the management, provides a platform for students seeking recruitments to interact with the possible recruiters on the campus. The members are actively involves in organizing programmes to enhanced and hone the skills of all budding managers and make them industry ready.
Summer internship program for the first year students is also organizied by the placement cell. The placement cell cordially welcomes corporate firms, financial institutions, governmental and non governmental organizations to be a part of the placement process at JIM.
