Stella Maris College, a Catholic institution of higher education for women, is affiliated to the University of Madras and is partly residential. It is run by the Society of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, a religious congregation founded by Blessed Mary of the Passion (Helene de Chappotin) in Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu in 1877. Guided by her charism, the initiatives of the college arise from a sound philosophy of life based on faith in God and the contemporary reality of a pluralistic Indian society that is challenged by global ideologies and cultures.
Hostel Facility
There are four hostels for resident students: Our Lady’s Hostel, St. Joseph’s Hostel, Nava Nirmana and Mother Klemens. Apart from a friendly rivalry in games and sports, all the hostelites are united as one large, happy family. They elect their own representatives at the beginning of each term who then assume responsibility for the varied activities of hostel life, which include socials, entertainment, inter-hostel sports, library and the mess.
