Central University of Kerala : School of Biological Science (SBS)

Based on the principles of excellence, ‘caring wisdom’ and equal opportunity for all, the Central University of Kerala (CUK) is one of the 15 new Central Universities established under “The Central Universities Act, 2009 (Act No. 25 of 2009)”. CUK aims to extend the scope of learning through a holistic methodology that accommodates diverse linguistic, scientific and cultural traditions. The university is headquartered at Kasaragod, the northernmost district of Kerala and has state-wide jurisdiction. It opened its doors in June 2009 with only 17 students, operating from the transit campus in Vidyanagar along with the administrative offices and the University Library. Soon after, the university started the Riverside Transit Campus at Padannakad,35km further south, which houses the science schools. The permanent campus of the University is being set up at Tejaswini Hills, Periye on a panoramic stretch of 310 acres of land beside the National Highway. In November 2013, the construction of the first set of buildings was completed at Periye. Five academic departments are functioning in the permanent campus

Students Counseling Centre
Library : Central University of Kerala has two well equipped libraries - one at its main campus at Vidyanagar and the other atthe Riverside Transit Campus at Padannakad. They act as centres of information for the academic community of the University ensuring fairaccess to knowledge. Library facilities and services include fully air-conditioned and automated environment, Wi-Fi network in the University Library at the main campus, free Internet access to all, UGC-Infonet, online journal access in the libraries and departments, inter-library loan, video show, reprographic service, article alert, group mail, locker, drinking water facility, and Web OPAC.
Computer Lab:The CUK Computer Centre is well equipped with modern computing facilities for students and researchers. Its information technology based learning solutions, multimedia experience, e-resources and high speed internet connectivity over 1Gbps are useful instruments for enlarging students overall knowledge and perspectives
 
 Hostel Facility
hostels are available for students attending classes in both Vidyanagar and Riverside campuses. The hostels run their own mess on sharing basis. The menu is decided by the students themselves on consensus. Sports and Recreation facilities are provided in the hostels.
 
 Scholarship Facility
The newly admitted students in Postgraduate programmes during the academic session 2015-2017 can apply for various scholarships offered by Kerala State Higher Education Council, SC/ST Development Department of Kerala, University Grant Commission etc.
SC/ST Scholarships: The SC, ST and other eligible students who belong to the State of Kerala may apply onlinefor E-grantz Scholarship offered by the Govt. of Kerala. After applying online the studentshave to submit a print-out of the application to the District SC Development Office, with necessary certification form the HOD concerned.
