On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the University of Calcutta, the Govt. of India allocated Rs. 100 crores for pursuing research in emerging sciences and technologies of national importance. This fund was utilized for the creation of the Center for Research in Nano Science and Nanotechnology to meet global challenges in this area.
The center has a library and well equipped seminar rooms for technical presentations, and a number of workshops and symposia, in various branches of science and technology, have already been held using these facilities
