The Department of Economics established in 1961, is one of the oldest Departments of the Kurukshetra University. Professor Vikas Mishra, a student of Nobel Laureate, Sir Professor W. Arthur Lewis and who did his M.A. from Manchester and Ph.D. from London School of Economics, was the founder Head of the Department. The Department has the distinction of providing the first ever faculty member in Professor Vikas Mishra as the Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University.
Library : In addition to the Central Library of the University, the department has its own library with around 3000 books and volumes of 12 national and international periodicals. Nearly 30 persons can sit and read at a time in the departmental library.
Computer Labs:The Department has 2 computer labs with 30 states of art computers and internet facility. In these labs students not only learn computers for their course work but are also imparted training of statistical software packages like SPSS, STATA, E-Views, and LIMDEP and are encouraged to take help of various websites to work on their assignments.
Seminar Room: The department has a well furnished, technically equipped, fully A.C. seminar room with audio Visual aids like, LCD Projector, Interactive Board and Interactive Panel etc.
The University has a common Placement Cell for all professional courses that cater to the needs of the department. In the department teachers provide guidance to the students and help them in selecting careers. Presently, Dr. Ashok Chauhan and Ms. Archna are looking after the Placement cell of the Department.
