J.D. Birla Institute, Kolkata is a private unaided College affiliated to Jadavpur University, Kolkata since 1963. It is conveniently located in the heart of the city at 11 Lower Rawdon Street, Kolkata-700020 (near Minto Park). The late Sushila Devi Birla, wife of eminent industrialist late L. N. Birla established a college for girls in her mother-in-law’s name in June 1962. The College was named Smt. Jawahari Devi Birla Institute of Home Science and it filled a much felt gap in the scientific education of young women from Calcutta’s conservative families.

1 .	B.Com. (Bachelor of Commerce)
	Eligibility A candidate seeking admission to three year B.Com (Hons.) course of the Institute must have passed Class-XII examination of any recognized Board / Council recognized by Jadavpur University with a combination of four recognized subjects of which at least one is English and securing at least 55% marks in the aggregate. Foreign Students may be admitted as per Jadavpur University norms Candidates must have good knowledge of the English language. Only female candidates are eligible for admission to the B.Com courses.
	Duration 3 Years
	Admission Procedure All eligible candidates will have to appear for a Group Interview, only on the date specified; no change in the dates allotted will be permitted. Candidates who fail to appear for the Group Interview will be considered ineligible for the final selection. The final merit list of selected candidates will be prepared based on scores obtained in the Group Interview. Selected candidates will have to pay the fees within 24 hours of the merit list being put up or else the seat will be given to the candidate next on the merit list. Admission will be confirmed only after verification of all necessary documents (with the originals) by the college within the stipulated time.

2 .	M.Com.
	Eligibility A student seeking admission to the M.Com course must have B.Com (Hons.) from Jadavpur University or any other University recognized by Jadavpur University and must have at least 55% at the Bachelor’s level: A candidate who has appeared in the examination at the under-graduate (degree) level may also apply in anticipation of the results, provided she produces her internal assessment showing the overall average marks obtained by her. The admission would be provisional subject to satisfaction of the admission criteria. Foreign Students may be admitted as per Jadavpur University norms Only female candidates are eligible for admission to the M.Com courses. Candidates must have good knowledge of the English language.
	Duration 2 Years
	Admission Procedure All candidates will have to appear for a personal interview, only on the date specified. No change in the dates allotted will be permitted. Candidates who fail to appear for the Group Interview will be considered ineligible for the final selection. Short-listed candidates will have to pay the fees within 24 hours of the merit list being put up or else the seat will be given to the candidate next on the merit list.
