The Deccan College, Post-Graduate and Research Institute, Deemed University, the third oldest educational Institute in the country established on 6 October 1821 is presently ranked 40th amongst the top 45 Universities of the country and 11th in terms of reputation. This is the only University in the country specializing in past and present Heritage of the country and is globally reputed for quality teaching and research in the specialized fields. The University has three full-fledged Departments, namely Archaeology, Linguistics and Sanskrit and Lexicography
The Department of Sanskrit and Lexicography is aimed at diffusing scientific knowledge in the areas of Sanskrit and Lexicography. The Department of Sanskrit and Lexicography presently offers M.A. and Ph.D. Degree courses in Sanskrit and Lexicography.
Library:The Deccan College Library is rated as the best library in India in the fields of Archaeology, Sanskrit and Linguistics. It is being managed by the Library Committee under the chairpersonship of Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor
Museum:The University has an exclusive museum on Indian Archaeology. Also there is a specialized Maratha History Museum. Both these museums provide tools for research, training and outreach programme.
