The Department of Library and Information Science came into existence in 1969 to impart quality education and modern skills in the field of Library and Information Science. The Department has the distinction of being the pioneer in Haryana in LIS education. Initially, it was headed by Dr. B.K. Kalia and manned by one Lecturer and two part-time Teachers. On the persistent demand of the students, the Department also started offering Master’s degree Course in 1986 and at present four Courses i.e. B. Lib. & Inf. Sc., M. Lib. & Inf. Sc., M. Phil. and Ph.D. are being run. To cope up with the rapidly changing information scenario, curriculum is regularly revised. The Department is extensively engaged in teaching and research with the faculty strength of one Professor, two Readers and four Lecturers. The senior faculty members of this Department are recognized in their field of specialization and are invited as visiting faculty in a number of Universities. The Department is also disseminating knowledge through distance mode by actively participating in three courses viz-Diploma in Library Science, B. Lib. & Inf. Sc. and M. Lib. & Inf. Sc.
The Department has a small library of 220 books consisting mainly of classification tools and text-books.
