Sophia College, founded in 1941, is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The Governing Body of the Society for the Higher Education of Women in India runs the College. The Religious Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and lay staff form the staff of the College. Sophia College is a Christian Minority Institution. Students of all denominations are welcome. Eligibility
Students who pass the H.S.C. Examination conducted by the Maharashtra Board are eligible to join the courses.  Students who pass the H.S.C., I.S.C., C.B.S.E., or any other qualifying examination from any Board/University other than Maharashtra Board should obtain the “provisional Eligibility Certificate” from the Registrar, University of Mumbai, before seeking admission to the College.

It is an intensive course as the objectives of the course clearly indicate. Besides the usual subject lectures, guest lectures, workshops, seminars and field trips are also arranged. There is also an optional internship at the end of the second year.
