Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research (IPGMER), Kolkatta was started as a hospital in 1957. In 2004, IPGMER was converted into a medical training institute as well. IPGMER is managed and run jointly by the Government of India and State Government of West Bengal. Earlier Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research was affiliated to University of Calcutta from 1957-2003. The institution is best known for study of undergraduate and post graduate level medical course, specialist medical degrees and diplomas, para medical courses and is known as the Bethlehem of advanced medical research.
