Established by ICARE Birbhum under the Chairmanship of Sri Somnath Chatterjee, Honourable Speaker of the Fourteenth Loksabha, BIET started functioning from 1999 under the chairmanship of legendary lndologist Professor Ramaranjan Mukherji, presently Member, Central Advisory Board of Education, Govt. of India, former Chancellor of Tirupati University and former Vice Chancellor of Burdwan & Rabindra Bharati Universities and former President of Association of Indian Universities.Situated at the sprawling picturesque Techno-Complex of 30 acres at Suri, BIET emerged as the pioneer Engineering Institute in Birbhum. It is proud to receive aids from the Government of West Bengal , Birbhum Zilla Parishad, West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL), and M.P.L.A.D. scheme for the development of the infrastructure and the campus.

The Institution has a dynamic Training & Placement Cell which is operated by experienced officers from Kolkata and assisted by other senior and experienced faculty members from the co-ordinational wing at the college end of SURI. The T&P cell is continuously scouting for job opportunities for the students of BIET by acting as an interface between the institution and the industry.
