In 2003, the dental wing was separated from MAMC as Maulana Azad Dental College and Hospital and was a granted an independent status under the Government of NCT of Delhi. In 2006, it was granted the status of an autonomous institute and was renamed Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences. The institution received FICCI excellence award for 2011and is the first dental institution to have achieved the honour. MAIDs is also the first dental institute to be accredited by the National Board of Accreditation for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers.
Library: A functional department library with copies of relevant books & journal has been established. In addition to books & journals in the library interest, CDs, audiovisual facilities also exist. All the recent editions of books pertaining to the specialty & allied subjects as per recommendation of DCI are also available. All the journals of 38 titles of different dental specialties & allied subjects are made available.
