The department is running French and German language courses at Certificate and Diploma level since 1970. In 2008-09 the department started Advanced Diploma in French and German. The demand for the languages has been consistently increasing with the awareness of the students about the job opportunities a foreign language could offer. Before few years, mostly students from elite and urban background used to seek admission in Foreign Languages. But now-a-days students from rural background are also taking keen interest in learning a foreign language. Students mostly from professional degree courses are more interested in foreign languages.Kurukshetra University is one of the few Indian Universities where French Embassy provided a French Tutor during the session 2008-09 and this current session 2009-10 at their expenses.
