Started in the year 2004, the department aims to produce genetic engineers who excel in the field of genomics and gene manipulation. Towards this end, the department has brought together state of the art laboratories and a highly experienced and dedicated team of faculty.
The department boasts facilities on par with western countries especially for undergraduate teaching and research. The department is well equipped to perform teaching and research in the fields of genetic engineering, immunology, bioseparation and genomics. The Genomics Lab is equipped with a 16-capillary Automated DNA Sequencing Machine from Applied Biosystems, PCR machines, Gene Pulser and other related equipment. Efforts are underway to add complete microarray platform to this lab. The curriculum provides hands-on experience to undergraduate students in molecular techniques, cloning strategies, sequencing and genome analysis, protein purification, hybridoma technology and microbial characterization.
