A government college was established on 6th September, 1979 in Itanagar, to run Undergraduate (UG) programme in Arts. This College gradually developed with time and was later named as Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) during the session 2000-2001. Dera Natung Govt College is the second institute (1st is Jawaharlal Nehru College) of higher education in Arunachal Pradesh. It is recognized by UGC under its clauses 2F and 12B in February, 1992. It is also accredited B+ Grade by NAAC.
Dera Natung Govt College has a total campus area of 80 acres. It has one administrative block with 15 rooms, and an academic block with 28 class rooms, 3 rooms for extra-curricular activities, 5 laboratories, 1 canteen, 1 post office, 1 two-wheeler stand and 2 parks. The College has provided space for power house and civil estate facilities extended by the State Government. There are three boys and one girl’s hostels in the College
The College has outdoor games facilities for football, basketball, badminton, cricket etc. and indoor games facilities for badminton, table tennis, carom and chess. A physical training instructor in the College organizes all events of indoor and outdoor games. There is a good playground in the College.
