Pocker Sahib Memorial Orphanage College was established in July, 1968 as an aided junior college, affiliated to the University of Kerala under the management of the Tirurangadi Muslim orphanage committee (Regd.). Consequent upon the University re-organization, the college came under the University of Calicut in the same year. It was upgraded as a first grade college in 1972 and a Post Graduate College in 1980. Three of the Departments have been recognized as Research Centres. The college has completed 46th year of its academic journey. It has emerged as one of the premier institutions of higher learning under Calicut University in terms of infrastructure, programmes, staff and student strength. At present, twelve degree programmes of which two are under self-financing stream and seven post graduate programmes are offered at the college catering to the higher educational needs of around 1800 students.Though the college was initially intended for the educational uplift of the orphans in the Muslim community, presently it fulfills the educational aspirations of students from all communities.
Library:
Books: There are more than 43,660 titles available in the library.
Journals and Periodicals: 150 Indian and International Journals of Science and Mathematics, Commerce and Arts are made available in the library.
E –resources: E – Books: There are 3,000 general e-books and e-magazines like Chip, Digit etc. stored inside the digital library. Various articles downloaded from internet and contributed by staff and students are also available in the e-book session.
E – Journals: E-Journals are made available through N-LIST INFLIBNET, along with links of Shodh Ganga Inflibnet, Jstor, Oxford University Press,University of Cambridge, Springer Link, Taylor and Francis online.
Video Library: Consists of 5000 Video Lectures.
Audio video: Audio Library: there are around 700 Audio files including Poems,Speeches, Audio Books and Spoken English Training in Audio Library.
Digital Language Lab:
The college has a full fledged language lab comprising 21 high capacity systems with network facility having language developing software for enriching the English and other language skills.
Co-operative Store:A registered co-operative store is functioning in the college. The membership is open to all students and staff. Books, stationery and provisions are made available to the members.
Canteen:The college canteen provides refreshment to the students and staff, at reasonable prices.
Hostel Facility
There is a hostel for girls in the college campus. Application for admission to the hostel will be accepted only from students who are admitted to the college. Admission fee Rs. 10/- establishment fee Rs.500/- and caution deposit Rs.2500/- should be remitted by the student at the time of admission. Caution deposit will be refunded on leaving the Hostel at the end of the course of study. A Hostel for boys is under construction.
