Established in the year 1957, Govt Brennen College of Teacher Education, Thalassery became one of the leading institutions providing state-of-the-art knowledge in the field of Education. Prior to the establishment of the college, Captain Edward Brennen started a free school in the year 1862 for boys irrespective of caste, creed and colour for providing a sound English education. Later in the year 1957 the school was converted to Govt Training College. In 1994 the college was upgraded and renamed as Govt College of Teacher Education (CTE). In September 2008 the college is renamed as Govt Brennen College of Teacher Education (GBCTE). In November 2008 the college has been elevated to the status of a Research Centre in Education, the first of its kind at government sector in Kannur University.
Hostel Facility
The men’s’ hostel of the college is situated about two kilometers away from the college on its’ own land ,on the side of NH17 near Thalassery Court. It is now converted in to the ladies hostel.The hostel has an accommodation facility for up to 35 students . Hostel also is functioning in a traditional type building with enough aerated and ventilated rooms, mess , enough number of bathrooms, toilets.Facilities for out door games such as, shuttle badminton, & volley ball is available in the hostel premises.
