The institution was started in June, 1964, in the ideal place Courtallam, with an appropriate and powerful name Sri Parasakthi under the control of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Board of Tamil Nadu, with the Commissioner, H.R.& C.E. Department as the President of the College Committee. Sri Parasakthi Educational Society was inaugurated on 6th October 1965 and it has been functioning till now. The college campus is 18.96 acres of land with a wide variety of trees, donated magnanimously by His Highness the Late Maharaja of Travancore. Sri Chithirai Thirunal Balaramavarma. The college was conferred autonomy in 1978, the only and first rural women's college to be conferred autonomous status in the whole of India.
LIBRARY : The College Library came into existence with the college in 1965. The first library was in a small room No.20 in the main building. Ground floor was added to library block to be used as reading room, the Eastern end room being used for a class. Later, a small block of two rooms to house the library was built at the site the entire ground floor came to be used by the library department. In 2000 the new Library building was constructed at Upstairs of Thiyana Mandabam under UGC IX plan.
Now the library has very good collections in disciplines. The number of books as on date is 55767.
