Arignar Anna Govt. Arts College - Grade I., Villupuram is a Government Higher Education Institution, managed by the Director of Collegiate Education, Chennai. This College was started on 3-7-1968, and was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Dr. C.N. ANNADURAI popularly known among Tamilians as “ANNA”. In 1971, Under Graduate courses such as B.A. Economics B.A. History, B.Sc., Chemistry and B.Com. were started. Until 1972, the college functioned at Kamaraj Municipal High School, Villlupuram and since 1973 the College has been functioning in the present campus.
The college has a digitalized library. The students enrich their knowledge by utilizing the library on a regular basis. It has in its collection over 41,000 books.
Co-Operative Stores:Students Co-Operative Stores was incepted in 1976. The Students and Staff members have enrolled themselves as members. The Co- Operative Stores has been identified as The Best Co-Operative Stores in the District in the year 1990 and has been so, till date. All Books and Records are sold at the Stores at concession rate for the benefit of the students. Thiru S. Mohan is in charge of the Stores.
