In order to augment the human resources and for the betterment of poultry farmers, a second veterinary college at Namakkal was started on 14.06.1985 as a constituent college of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. It later became a constituent unit of India's first veterinary varsity, the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University on 20.09.1989.

Animal Feed Analytical and Quality Assurance Laboratory
Computer Centre: This centre offers courses on computer applications in veterinary and animal sciences to postgraduate students besides offering internet services to departments and students.
Library: VC&RI library was established in 1987 soon after inception of the college at Namakkal. The library database system consists of 9,975 books, 87 journals, 2800 back volumes, 48 video cassettes and 97 CD/DVD resources.

Hostel Facility
At present undergraduate boys are accommodated in 4 hostel blocks. A separate P.G. block meant for P.G. students is available. After the admission of women students in 1997-1998, a separate hostel for women was started. Presently two hostel blocks exclusively for girls are available.
