The college made its humble beginning on 26th August 1991 with 38 students in all and two UG programmes-one in Arts stream and the other in Commerce.
Since then the college started making rapid strides in all fronts-student population, staff pattern, infrastructure and extension activities etc. The college is known for its educational service constantly trying to offer quality education to the stakeholders- womenfolk of this area. Now the college houses four UG programmes-Arts, Commerce, Management and Science and two PG programmes- MA-in-English and M.Com. The student strength has been on the steady rise year by year and at present, it stands at 2550 including the two post graduate courses with 31 full time faculties adequately backed up by 103 guest faculty.
Library: The central library has a total collection of 30600 books including books, text books and reference books and it subscribes to 26 academic research journals, 19 news papers and 23 general magazines.
Hostel Facility
The College does not have its own hostel. However, outstation students are accommodated in the General hostel (BCM), which is adjacent to college campus, managed by the Social Welfare Department of Govt. of Karnataka.

A good number of government and non government scholarship and free ships are made available (SC/ST Hostel scholarship, days scholarship, PH scholarship, Sanchihonnamma scholarship, C V Raman scholarship, National merit scholarship, minorities scholarship, Ex-servicemen scholarship, BCM scholarship, Jindal scholarship, Muncipal corp scholarship, etc..
