The Government College (Autonomous), Mandya, a holy shrine of Sharada Devi was established in the year 1948 to meet the educational requirements of rural students. It has grown from years to years and acquired the Autonomous status in 2005. It is a matter of great privilege to state that the University of Mysore, Mysore in pursuant of the approval of the UGC and the Government of Karnataka has granted “Autonomous Status” to the college vide Order No. CDC :B:AUTONOMY:28:1992-93 dated 8th June 2005. It is a matter of great honour that it is the first Autonomous Government College in Karnataka State. After getting autonomy, the college has started several new courses/combinations and designed its own curriculum. Different committees are constituted as per the UGC guidelines to ensure the effective functioning of autonomy.
The Mandya Library and information centre was established in the year 1948 with 18 books has grown up to 66563 books.
