The civil district of Guntur was created in 1904. On 13th February 1940 the Holy See (pope in Rome) erected the indigenous Diocese of Guntur co-extensive with the then civil District of Guntur. The diocese of Guntur registered the society as “The Diocese of Guntur society” under certificate of Registrations of Societies Act 1860 (Act No. XXI of 1860) on twenty eight day of October one thousand nine hundred and forty.
The Diocese of Guntur is unique in its importance in the whole of Andhra for its century’s Old Catholic Christians, for the numerous Priestly and Religious Vocations, for the generosity and enterprising nature of the people etc.
