Oil Technological Research Institute (OTRI) is a constituent unit under Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur (JNTUA), Anantapur. The institute was undertaken by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University from 1st April 1985 for the better development and greater prospects for the research staff and to expand its progression in the academic activities.Oil technological research institute was established in August 1949 by the then composite Madras state at Anantapur, as its locality not only was an academic centre but was also a locus for oil seed growing belt of this part of south India.
Laboratory: The college has well equipped with sophisticated laboratories in basic sciences and pharmacy so that students can understand effectively, what they have learnt in the classrooms. Experiments are designed so that the basic concepts are well understood by the students.
Central computational facility: The college is well equipped with good air conditioned spacious computer lab with 25 computers and all the computers were provided with the internet facilities. The area of computer lab is 76 sq.meters.
Equipment and instruments: The college machine room has various machines used in the pharmaceutical industries at different stages of production, quality control and packing. Tabletting machines, coating and polishing pans, bottle filling machines, and Q.C instruments like friability tester, DT and Dissolution test apparatus, deep freezer (upto 200C), are the important ones, apart from other modern and sophisticated machines and instruments to update the facilities.
Research Laboratory: The institution has well equipped research lab with equipments and Instruments like Shimazdu UFLC, Gas chromatography, ELICO UV-Visible double beam Spectrophotometer, Electro lab six basket dissolution apparatus, Brooke field’s Viscometer, Micro centrifuge, digital balance, punching machine, coating and polishing pans, bottle filling machines and quality control instruments like friability tester, hardness tester, Disintegration apparatus used in pilot project.
Guest Faculty: Eminent persons in the field of Pharmacy drawn from industry and teaching profession visit the college and address the students and staff on important topics in the profession.
Research and publications: Oriented projects of national importance are carried by M.Pharm and B.Pharm students along with teaching faculty. Staff and students are encouraged to present their research findings in seminars/conferences and publish the same in national and international journals.
Medicinal Garden: The Institute has developed a medicinal garden, which is an ancillary to Pharmacognosy laboratory. Students have easy access to various medicinal plants to conduct their experiments on.
Central library: The library has 4462 volumes of books, 1136 titles of books, 1352 number of national journals, and 1376 number of international journals. It includes subscription to Science direct e-journal collection proposed by AICTE. The library is also equipped with multimedia, language and for e-learning.The central library is equipped with various e language softwares for exploring knowledge in English and communications skills.
