The Saraswati Shinde Education Society was established on 20th September, 1988 by late founder, President & Principal Dr. Abasaheb Shinde who was born in a small village at Patkhal(Satara) in Maharashtra, and had his early education there. He later graduated from Bombay University, and got his Doctorate from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The college started when the education department of Govrnment of Maharashtra graciosly granted permission to the society to begin an English medium Arts and Commerce College ( D.D.Shinde Sarkar College) at Kolhapur in the academic year 1990-91.
Library: From the academic year 2004-2005 we have started computerisation of the Library. Immediately after the reopening of the college of June, our librarian acquaints the students, especially of 11th classes, with the facilities and services made available therein. Our librarian takes lively interest in drawing the attention of teachers to new arrivals and references works. Though we have a small collection, ours being a grooving college, yet we lend two books to students, one a prescribed book and another fiction.
