The Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology was formally inaugurated in the University of Kerala as part of the "Suvarna Kerala" celebrations on 12th December 2006 by the Honorable Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Sri. M.Vijayakumar. Prof.Dr.M.Abdul Khadar was appointed the Honorary Director of the centre. The centre was started with the aim of offering academic programmes in the emerging area of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and establishment of state-of-the-art laboratories for research in the area of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, in-depth research work and thereby generation of manpower in this area. The first academic programme, M.Phil course in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, was started on 12th December 2007. The formal inauguration of the M.Phil programme was held on 25-02-2008. Research work, as a part of the academic programmes of the Centre, started with the joining of three full time research scholars during the January session in 2008.
Library: Total number of books : 982. The collection includes most rare and valuable books in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Nanobiology, Fibre optics and Nano opto electronics .
