college was up in 1970 to provide educational environment for the students of this region, though the college has already been recognized by the government, yet has not been successful in meeting the needs of a large number of student. In this situation the need of an another college was realized by the people of this district. so a new college 'S.P.D'college Garhwa' was established on 5th june 1983 by sri yugal kishor pandey, local M.L.A of the time, in the name of a prominent social worker late surat pandey. Gradually the college occupied a parmanent place in the heart og the peaple due to its better performance by imparting higher education to the students. the government granted first affiliation to this college for three sessions in 1988. the extension of affiliation was made foe five sessions in 1991 and permanent affiliation in 1996.
