Berhampore Girls' College was established in 1946. It is the first government sponsored college in the state of West Bengal. The institution was founded by Smt. Amiya Rao, an eminent scholar and wife of the then District Collector Sri B.G.Rao, as a seat for the advancement of women’s education and uplift in this predominantly agricultural and backward belt of the state. Smt. Rao was the first Principal of this institution and was succeeded by Smt. Preeti Gupta, who became an institution in the field of women’s education & upliftment. Today the college strives to uphold its proud heritage and continues to pursue its objective to spread higher education among the women students and inculcate in them the spirit of freedom, both economic and social.
Computer Lab: The present times make an acquaintance with computers an imperative. Keeping this in mind the college has formed a computer centre to train interested students.The aim of Berhampore Girls' College Computer Centre is to give maximum exposure to the students in the field of computers at a basic level. It offers courses that would prove beneficial to students in their careers.
COACHING FOR SERVICE ENTRY: Free of cost coaching is given for entry into different types of Govt. Services such as P.S.C (WBCS, Misc, Clerkship), School Service commission, Staff Selection Commission, Bank, Rail, Defence Services etc. to the students belonging to SC, ST, OBC, PH, Minorities BPL Categories, General Category students may also apply with a nominal fee. Female students of other colleges may also apply for this programme
Facilities available for differently-abled persons
Berhampore Girls’ College has been starting to pay attention to the needs of child by opening U.G.C. sponsored Day Care Centre under the supervision of Prof. Mamata Samaddar on 29.11.2010.
The College runs a Health Home. A recognized medical practitioner of the locality is attached to it. He comes to the College once in a week and treats such students who need medical attention.
