IPSS was established to serve the distressed families of fishermen affected by alcoholism and drug abuse by extending a warm helping hand to overcome their difficulties. IPSS was registered in 1986 and started the work at Vettuthura, Channankara P.O Thiruvanathapuram in the year 1987 by opening Holy Spirit Hospital, the first de-addiction centre in the southern region of Kerala. Rev.Dr.Jose Puthenveed’s vision of bringing solace to the victims and families of alcoholics was actualized through the dedicated services of the co-founder member late Sr. Dr Mary Anne and many like-minded friends. IPSS currently focuses on psychosocial services such as psychosocial awareness programs, counseling training, treatment, publications, community development and research activities. IPSS is committed to the sublime task of empowering social workers, psychologists, counseling psychologists, school counselors, educators, teachers, parents, and mental health care professionals and the communities in their psychosocial and spiritual development.
