The President of Lokayat Education Society Ahmedpur, Hon.Bhai Kishanrao Deshmukh and its members understood the thirst of education of the people in this area and they sincerely tried to make available the opportunity of higher education to rural masses. Bhai Kishanrao Deshmukh Mahavidyalaya Chakur with its mission “ Higher Education to Rural Masses,’’ is a multi-disciplinary college established in 1990.The area in which the college is located is a drought prone, rural and educationally as well as socially backward area. Education to girls was mostly neglected by the society. Considering this crucial situation, Hon.Bhai Kishanrao Deshmukh established various educational units at Ahmedpur and Chakur. There was no facility of higher education in the orbit of 40kms from Chakur. Therefore, Lokmanya Sr. College Chakur (former name of this college), with Arts and Commerce faculties, was started. The main objective of this institution is to bring these socially disadvantaged, educationally backward people at par with others through education.
Library: The Library of B K D College Chakur was established in 1990. It has a separate building with all necessary facilities. The central Library has a collection of 20148 books. Today the Library has a large collection of Books, Journals, Periodicals and Magazines. There are 17 news papers and 21 Magazines. The Library has an area of about 2000 sqft.
Sports Facilities: The department of Physical Education was established with establishment of this College on 13 July 1991. This department is the integral part of Bhai Kishanrao Deshmukh Mahavidyalaya, Chakur, Dist Latur. In this rural college, there are many students who have been learning Physical Education as their optional subject. The department has one faculty-members (Vice Principal) Director , Dr. S. R. Dhondge & The Department aims at empowering the students from rural area to lead the physical sports activity. In a short span of time, this department has earned a lot of reputation and popularity for providing higher and quality education and fulfilling growing needs of the society. Now this department is one of the favorite among the humanities.
Hostel Facility
Hostel Facilities Available: he College has a well furnished two storied Girls’ Hostel in its campus named after Savitribai Phule with the accommodation capacity of 50 girl students. It provides all basic facilities and security to the girls. It has a canteen for girls and an office for the Warden.
