Silchar Polytechnic was established in the year 1960 by the Govt. of Assam. Sri K. Goldsmith was the founder Principal of this institute. The institute started with Civil Engineering Diploma course & now it is imparting 3-years Diploma course in 4-disciplines viz; Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. This institute is the only Govt. level Diploma Institute in Barak valley situated in southern part of Assam, imparting its excellence as a pace setter for Diploma Engineering education running with good conditioned departmental laboratories, computer laboratories and placement cell. It is an elite institute with good percentage of placement.
Library: Silchar Polytechnic , is equipped with the necessary facilities of library and reading room to cater the needs of the students. Besides text books the collections include periodical, pamphlets reports, proceeding maps, dailies and journals on various topic information and development of Science. Engineering and other technical and non-technical fields.
